Signal testing hasn’t kept up with IoT

Most signal testers were designed for voice and basic data. IoT and M2M deployments have moved far beyond that. The tools haven’t.

Handheld testers use an internal stub antenna and their own generic modem. A Teltonika with an external LPDA at rooftop height can show 15-20 dB more signal than a handheld held at standing height. Different antenna. Different gain. Different result. That’s not a test. It’s a guess.
